0Team Chile Announces Captains
The South American Games will see the official launch of “Team Chile”, which aims to create a bridge between Chile’s elite athletes and create a “true national selection”.
While Chile’s Winter Olympic team wore the condor of Team Chile, it will be up to the hosts of the Odesur to officially launch the Team Chile initiative. In a ceremony at the Centro de Entrenamiento Olímpico, Chilean Olympic Committee President Nevin Ilic gave name to the “captains” of the Team Chile initiative.
Paralympic weightlifting World Champion Juan Carlos Garrido and skeet shooter Francisca Crovetto will lead the way for Team Chile. The young shooter, who is seen as one of Chile’s long-term hopes, said at the event, “We thank all the athletes for choosing us, we hope that just as much for the press as the athletes, that this can create a closer link and resolve any doubts.”
Garrido, who will look for gold at the first ever Parasuramericanos, described Team Chile as a “unique opportunity”. Marco Grimalt (beach volleyball) and Angelo Vidal (fencing) were named as vice captains.
