Chile Open Copa América With Victory Over Argentina

A Francisca Lara goal was enough for Chile to open their Copa América campaign with a victory over Argentina.

Lara, who has been a vital cog in Colo Colo’s domination on the domestic front, as well as an important part of Ronnie Radonic’s team. It was the touch of the former Ferroviarios, Coquimbo Unido and Cobreloa player which set Chile’s cup campaign in Ecuador off on the right foot.

The other opening round winner in Group B was Brazil. With five of the six Copa América titles to their name, Brazil will look to make amends for the efforts of their male compatriots on home soil at the World Cup. The reigning champions had no troubles, blasting Bolivia off the park in a 6-0 victory.

Chile will hope to inflict some more punishment on Bolivia when they meet in their next match, taking place on September 16.

In Group A host Ecuador were victorious over Peru, while Venezuela were too strong for Uruguay.
