0Let the Games Begin
Today, Friday March 7 sees the launch of the Santiago 2014 South American Games. The Odesur will be Chile’s biggest sporting event.
Featuring more athletes than the Sochi Winter Olympics, Santiago 2014 will put the focus on Chile to see their potential for hosting major sporting events in the future. With an investment of US$45 million in facilities, it is now up to the athletes as well as administrators to ensure that Chile is remembered for a great Games.
Chile will look to boost its standing on the medal table, with 30 gold medals the target. Previous hosts Colombia as well as Brazil are likely to be fighting for the top position. The event, which spreads through Santiago and the Valparaíso Region, will be a great opportunity for Chileans to not only cheer on their own athletes, but also to get to know sports that are not so well known in Chile.
