DIY Urbanism and Homelessness

I came across this interesting article in my travels online. What do pop up shops and homelessness have in common? by Ann Deslandes. It gives a comparison between the urban culture of taking over disused spaces (think Renew Newcastle, or the You Are Here Festival in Canberra).

The article makes the point that while this is seen as very arty and a great use of space, people without a home are in a different basket all together.
