0Marathon marvels take over Santiago
The streets of the capital were bathed in blue as more than 25,000 runners took on the challenge of the Santiago Marathon.
While some ran in fancy dress or simply wanted to reach the finish line, there were also some top-quality athletes determined to win the race.
In the men´s competition, it was Eritrea´s Beraki Beyene who completed the 42km course first in a time of 2 hours, 11 mins and 50 seconds.
The top Chilean finisher in the men´s race was Roberto Echeverría, who came home seventh.
In the women´s event, Kenya´s Emily Chepkorir proved the fastest, winning in 2.35.00. The experienced Erika Olivera was the best Chilean woman, finishing fourth.
On a chilly morning ideal for running, there were hopes that new records would be set, but it didn´t happen in either the men´s or women´s marathons.
Nonetheless, most of the runners went home happy after completing their challenge, whether it was in the 10km, 21km or the marathon.
