0Morrison sparkles in Universidad Austral triumph
Ziomara Morrison played a starring role as Universidad Austral earned their first victory of the South American Club Championships in Ecuador.
The pressure was on the Valdivia-based team after they lost their opening match in the competition 114-70 against home side Universidad Tecnológica Equinoccial.
It meant a win was crucial in their latest match against Real Club de Lima, but things didn´t look good when the Peruvians raced into an early 7-0 lead.
By half-time, Real Club led 45-36 and looked on course for victory. However, Universidad Austral, inspired by Chilean international Morrison, produced a superb third quarter to turn the tide.
They gained a three-point lead by the end of the quarter (59-56) and that seemed to knock the stuffing out of the Peruvians.
Austral were able to stretch their lead in the final quarter to run out comfortable 85-71 victors. Morrison led the way with 35 points and nine rebounds.
