0Koch takes over as Chile´s number one
Andrea Koch has toppled Daniela Seguel as Chile´s number one tennis player by breaking back into the world´s top 300.
While Koch rose 24 places to 295 in the latest world rankings, Seguel slipped 13 spots to 298.
Koch has won ITF titles in Ecuador and Bolivia this season and that has played a part in her big jump from 511 in the rankings at the end of last year.
It was back in June 2012 when the 29-year-old reached her highest-ever ranking of 224.
Seguel, meanwhile, has dropped back from a career high 257 at the end of April to her current slot at 298. However, the 21-year-old has had plenty of success in doubles this year, particularly in reaching the main draw at Wimbledon.
Chilean tennis fans will hope the battle for the number one spot will bring the best out of both players and see them climb the world list.
Fernanda Brito, fresh from her ITF tournament win in Ecuador last week, is the third-highest ranked Chilean at 418, while Cecilia Costa is 501st. Ivania Martinich is 780th.
On the men´s front, Gonzalo Lama continues to lead the way at 197, while Hans Podlipnik is at 218. They´re followed by Nicolás Jarry (306), Christian Garín (328) and Jorge Aguilar (416).
