0Emile Ritter Wins Gold at South American Beach Games
Emile Ritter won Chile’s first gold medal at the South American Beach Games in Vargas, Venezuela, winning the Trick event in water skiing.
The 22-year-old was ranked fifth heading in to the final, but impressed with his selection of tricks to blast his way to the gold medal, Chile’s first of the Games. Josefa González added a bronze in the women’s Trick event.
The Vargas event is the third version of the South American Beach Games. Originally scheduled for December 2013, the event had to be pushed back due to delays.
The host country is leading the medal count with seven golds contributing to a total of ten medals. Tomás Zamora was Chile’s other medalist, taking bronze in Beach Tennis.
The South American Beach Games will continue until May 24. The event involves ten beach-based sports including triathlon, sailing, handball, rugby and surfing.
