No Luck for Lama in ATP 500

Chilean number one Gonzalo Lama was unable to pass the first round of qualifying at the ATP tournament in Washington, going down to Jared Donaldson.

Despite Lama going in with the higher ranking of 206, it was the USA’s Donaldson (333) who controlled the court on his preferred surface.

The outdoor hardcourt event is one of the US Open Series event, building up to the final Grand Slam of the year.

Lama’s presence at the Citi Open was shortlived, falling 6-1, 6-1 in under an hour with the weight of unforced errors playing against him.

Christian Garín will play the Segovia Challenger this week in Spain.

Andrea Koch eventually lost a rain-affected quarter-final in Brazil, and will now move on to the ITF tournament in Bolivia.
