0Capital Eyes – Vlog 27 – Culburra Callala
I made a dash down the coast for a daytrip, visiting the skateparks in Culburra Beach and Callala Bay along the way.
It was a quick trip down and I have actually managed to get the vlog together the next day, as most of the filming was done as quickly as possible. I was lucky enough to land a few tricks to feature in the video.
We spent quite a few years going on family trips to Culburra. It had been years since I had been there and I had recently mentioned that there were some really nice beaches outside of Nowra to a friend. As it was a solo trip I tried to get in as many skateparks as possible. I popped into Bungendore on the way through and the reasonably new park in Nowra, though I don’t know if it was worth getting rid of the old one for that.
I was really happy to get a few good runs on the jetty in Callala Bay, as well as having a pelican pop in to the shot. While it was a lot of driving for a short time at the beach, it was well worth the journey, though the water was quite cold.
For Canberra nerds, Culburra is also designed by Walter Burley Griffin. A fun fact for your day. I also read that it took eleven years to get from the planning stages to the physical product of the Culburra skatepark, so I thought it was worth a visit for all those years of effort.
I had planned on doing a bit more exploration around the Jervis Bay area but that will just have to wait until the next opportunity. I do think the next daytrip will be down around the Batemans Bay region though, as it was a bit of excessive driving for a quick journey.
