COBS launched their Torneo de Apertura campaign in style with a 29-16 victory in the ‘British derby’ against Old Boys.
La Dehesa – The ex-students of Craighouse had the edge over their counterparts from the Grange and eased to a relatively comfortable victory.
Anton Petrowitch y Matías Nordenflycht scored tries for the hosts in the first half as they opened up an 18-9 advantage. José Tomás Maturana kicked nine points with the boot for Old Boys.
COBS increased their lead early in the second half, but the visitors kept going and gave themselves a glimmer of hope when Martin Gianetti touched down for a try converted by Maturana.
However, it was all over when Nordenflycht kicked two late penalties to confirm COBS´victory.
Elsewhere, reigning champions Universidad Católica suffered a shock home defeat against Alumni, going down 34-25.
There were comfortable opening weekend wins for Old Georgians and Stade Francais. The former beat Country Club 42-15, while the latter saw off Old Reds 46-21.
