O´Higgins frustrated by Palestino late show

Champions O´Higgins missed the chance to go top of the Clausura when Palestino netted a late equaliser last night.

La Cisterna – It looked as though Pablo Hernández´s tap-in on the hour mark would be enough for Eduardo Berizzo´s men to leapfrog Colo Colo at the summit.

However, they paid the price for failing to make their superiority count when Miguel Escalona headed home from a free-kick in the 87th minute.

O´Higgins slipped one place to third, while Palestino also dropped one spot to fourth.

That was because Universidad Católica put their Copa Chile disappointment behind them with a last-gasp 1-0 win at Cobresal, who had Eduardo Farías sent off in the 28th minute.

Darío Botinelli popped up with the 89th minute winner to put Católica second in the table, behind leaders Colo Colo on goal difference.

In the other game yesterday, Nelson Acosta´s Everton drew 1-1 at home against Antofagasta. A Javier Elizondo penalty gave the visitors the lead two minutes before the break, but Matías Donoso equalised in the 81st minute.

There were two games on Friday night. Rangers recorded a much-needed win when they beat Cobreloa 2-1 in Talca.

Francisco Alarcón gave Rangers the lead in the 30th minute, but Cobreloa drew level thanks to Gabriel Méndez´s 38th minute penalty. Rodolfo González notched the 79th minute winner.

Unión La Calera climbed to seventh with a 1-0 win at struggling Audax Italiano. Leando Benegas struck in the second minute, his fifth goal of the season.

In today´s matches, Santiago Wanderers host Universidad de Chile, Huachipato entertain Iquique, Ñublense take on Universidad de Concepción and Unión Española host Colo Colo.
