Chile’s frustrating finale in the Winter Olympics

Chile´s Winter Olympics campaign came to a disappointing finish when Eugenio Claro was unable to finish the slalom.

Sochi – The 20-year-old had finished the first run in 63rd place with a time of 57.08secs, but didn´t finish the second run.

Veteran Mario Matt, of Austria won the gold, while compatriot Marcel Hirscher claimed the silver. Norway´s Henrik Kristoffersen, 19, won the bronze medal.

It means Chile´s search for a first Winter Olympics medal will continue for another four years at least. The highest finish in Sochi was Dominique Ohaco´s 13th place in slopestyle.

Cross country skier Yonathan Fernández has been given the honour of carrying the Chilean flag in tomorrow´s closing ceremony. The 27-year-old finished 84th in the men´s sprint.
