Chile Win Rugby Sevens Gold at South American Games

Chile have topped the podium in the Rugby Sevens at the South American Games in Cochabamba, Bolivia.

After going through undefeated with five wins and a draw from their six matches, Chile won the gold medal at the South American Games in Cochabamba.

After thrashing Brazil 52-0 in their final match, Los Condores had a nervous wait, with the final medals coming down to the result between Uruguay and Argentina. A win for Uruguay was enough to keep Chile at the top of the table. Uruguay’s win boosted them into second place, after having the same results and same amount of tries as Argentina.

Chile ran in 10 more tries than their next rivals, scoring 34 over the course of the competition. Chile opened by thrashing hosts Bolivia 54-0, with Paraguay copping a 40-0 beating. Argentina managed to hold Chile to a draw, the only game they did not win.

Chile were not involved in the women’s event, with Brazil topping the table there ahead of Argentina and Paraguay.

The victory means Chile has qualified for the Pan American Games next year and continues a recent run of strong performances. They will compete in the Rugby Sevens World Cup later this year.
