San Luis and Santiago Morning earn narrow wins

San Luis de Quillota and Santiago Morning take slim advantages into the second legs of their Primera B play-off semi-finals after hard-fought wins against Coquimbo Unido and Barnechea.
The clash between San Luis and Coquimbo was a meeting of the Apertura and Clausura champions, and it was the former who came out on top 2-1 at home.
Alejandro Fiorina gave the Canaries the lead on the stroke of half-time. If that wasn’t bad enough for Coquimbo, they suffered two more hammer blows in the opening five minutes of the second half.
Firstly, experienced midfielder Gamadiel García was sent off in the 47th minute and three minutes later Fiorina scored his second of the afternoon.
If San Luis could have kept that advantage – or even extended it against the ten men – they would have been firmly in the driving seat for the second leg. However, Coquimbo cut the deficit two minutes later courtesy of a brilliant Cristián Muñoz free-kick.
It means there is all to play for when the sides meet again in Coquimbo on Wednesday. The second leg kicks off at 6pm at the Estadio Francisco Sánchez Rumoroso.
Meanwhile, the other tie is also delicately poised after Santiago Morning edged the first leg 1-0 against Barnechea at San Carlos de Apoquindo.
For long spells it looked as though the game would finish goalless, but substitute Cristián Ivanobski blasted home a superb 76th-minute strike to give the visitors the lead.
The second leg takes place at La Pintana on Wednesday afternoon (3.30pm).
