0Next Footbag Worlds Locations Revealed
The 2016 World Footbag Championships will be held in Trnava, Slovakia while 2017 will see Portland, USA as hosts.
The dual announcements provide a mix of old and new with great potential for the sport of footbag. 2016 will be the first time that Slovakia has hosted Worlds. The organising team will be strongly assisted by the Czech Footbag Association, with Prague having hosted two previous World Championships, including 2003’s first European version.
One competitor at that event was current mayor of Trvana, Peter Bročka. The independent candidate with a striking beard won on a platform of improvement for the city and the municipality will be working closely with the organising team for the event.
While most years sees the World Championships announced one year ahead, the IFPA has announced a double hit, with Portland hosting the 2017 event, 20 years after Peter Irish took out the freestyle event in 1997. The Portland team will be led by Chris Dean, who has been an important cog in organising recent US Open tournaments. It will be the first time Worlds has been in the USA since the Oakland event in 2010.
Below is Milan Benda’s winning routine from this year’s event in Copenhagen, Denmark.
