0La U fight back to share spoils with Audax
Universidad de Chile came back from 3-1 down to salvage a point from their visit to Audax Italiano on Friday night.
La Florida – It looked as though la U could be in for an easy night when Juan Rodrigo Rojas opened the scoring in the second minute, but it certainly didn´t turn out that way.
The influential Marco Medel levelled things up in the 41st minute and half-time substitute Felipe Mora struck in the 49th and 56th minutes to open up a 3-1 lead for the home side.
However, Universidad de Chile gave themselves a lifeline when top scorer Pato Rubio pulled one back five minutes later. Another former Unión Española man, Francisco Castro, who had only come on with ten minutes left, bagged the equaliser with five minutes to go.
Unfortunately, the action on the pitch was marred by a series of events off it. A la U fan fell from the tribunes and injured himself, there were confrontations between visiting fans and the police and Audax goalkeeper Jaime Bravo complained about coins being thrown at him.
The result allowed Universidad de Chile to climb to fifth place in the table, but their Clausura title hopes are beginning to look slim. They are six points behind leaders and arch-rivals Colo Colo, who have a game in hand.
La U now turn their attentions to the Copa Libertadores and will need to tighten things up defensively when they visit Brazilian outfit Cruzeiro on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, Huachipato earned three priceless points in their battle to avoid relegation when they edged out Ñublense 1-0 at the Estadio CAP in the other match last night.
Ex-Palestino striker Lucas Simón netted the winner on 29 minutes. Although Huachipato remain bottom of the accumulated table, they have moved level on points with Everton.
