Kristel Köbrich Takes Silver in Pro Swim Series

Chilean swimmer Kristel Köbrich has started her year strongly, taking second place in the 800 metres at the Austin leg of the Pro Swim Series.

Köbrich  finished the race in a time of 8’35″65, coming in behind China’s Li Bingjie. The Chinese swimmer was well ahead, finishing with a time of 8’28″98.

The Chilean swimmer burst onto the scene in 2003, with bronze in the 800m at the Pan American Games, the first Chilean to win a swimming medal at the Games. Her speciality is the 1500 metres, which has been included in the program for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Köbrich has now reached the final of that event six times in a row at the World Championships and holds the Chilean and South American record in the event. A shot at Japan would be her fourth Olympics.
