0Honours even as Chileans clash in Premier League
It finished all-square in the battle of the Chileans as Eduardo Vargas and Mauricio Isla´s QPR drew 2-2 with Manuel Pellegrini´s Manchester City.
It looked as though Premier League strugglers Rangers would pull off a shock victory against the champions when they led twice, but Sergio Aguero showed all his predatory skills to produce two top-class finishes to rescue a point for the Citizens.
The encouraging news for Chile boss Jorge Sampaoli is that Isla and Vargas are both in good form ahead of la Roja’s upcoming friendlies against Venezuela and Uruguay.
The Chileans linked up superbly on QPR’s right and it was their good work that paved the way for in-form striker Charlie Austin to beat City keeper Joe Hart to put the hosts ahead in the 21st minute.
But Argentinian ace Aguero latched on to a long ball and finished coolly to make it 1-1 just after the half hour mark.
Vargas was also involved in his side’s second on 76 minutes. He played the ball out to Austin on the right and his cross was diverted into his own net by Argentinian defender Martin Demichelis.
It looked as though Harry Redknapp’s men would earn three precious points, but Aguero popped up again to show his finishing prowess with seven minutes left.
In the end, a point apiece from the Loftus Road showdown was fair, though Rangers needed a maximum haul in their relegation fight and Pellegrini could have done with three points to ease the growing pressure following his side’s poor Champions’ League form.
Meanwhile, Alexis Sánchez´s Arsenal visit Swansea in the Premier League tomorrow.
