1Coquimbo are the Clausura champions
Coquimbo Unido wrapped up the Primera B Clausura title with a hard-fought 2-1 home win against Curicó Unido – but San Marcos de Arica remain favourites to bag the automatic promotion spot.
Gamadiel García gave Coquimbo the lead in the fifth minute at the Bicentenario Francisco Sánchez, but Curicó got back on terms through Felipe Rojas on 25 minutes.
In the second half, Cristián Ledesma bagged the 58th-minute winner to ensure the title and earn the Pirates at least a play-off spot.
However, the one automatic promotion place goes to the team that finishes top of the accumulated Apertura and Clausura standings. And San Marcos de Arica notched a vital 1-0 win at Deportes Concepción to stay top of those standings, two points ahead of Coquimbo with just one match to play.
Renato González scored a superb 44th-minute winner to earn San Marcos the victory. They have a better goal difference than Coquimbo, so a point at home against Lota Schwager in the final game on Wednesday will be enough to win the overall competition and guarantee a speedy return to the top flight after last year´s relegation.
However, it won’t be easy because Lota need the points themselves in their battle to avoid relegation. At present, they are just one point above bottom side La Serena.
To come top of the accumulated standings, Coquimbo will need to beat Santiago Morning away and hope that Lota can do them a favour in the north.
Assuming San Marcos get the point they need, the play-offs would feature San Luis de Quillota (Apertura winners), Coquimbo Unido (Clausura winners), Santiago Morning and Barnechea, currently third and fourth in the overall standings.
The final round of fixtures takes place on Wednesday. The matches are: Naval v Unión San Felipe, La Serena v Deportes Concepción, Curicó Unido v Magallanes, Santiago Morning v Coquimbo Unido, Deportes Copiapó v Barnechea, San Marcos de Arica v Lota Schwager and San Luis de Quillota v Deportes Temuco.
