0Chile Prepare to Face Brazil in Rugby Clash
Chile’s national rugby team will begin the Suramericano Mayor A tournament in Sao Paulo, Brazil, looking for victory to open proceedings.
The match will take place on Saturday April 26 at Arena Barueri in Sao Paulo. The 2014 version will be a travelling event, with no fixed location for the tournament. While five teams are involved this year, the three best teams will qualify for 2015.
Each team will play two home and away matches. After Brazil, Chile will host Paraguay on May 3, though the stadium is still yet to be announced. One week later, Chile will visit Uruguay to play on May 10, with the final match against Argentina in Santiago on May 25.
The squad for the opening match has a heavy COBS influence, with 10 of the 23 players selected coming from the Craighouse.
Chile’s last clash with Brazil was a 38-22 victory in Temuco in 2013. Chile are currently ranked 28 on the IRB rankings, with Brazil nine places behind (37).
On May 31, Ignacio Silva (Stade Francais) and coach Elías Santillán have been slected to take part in the South American invitational squad, who will play against Argentina.
Chile will hope to continue the strong form from the seven-a-side form of the game, which included historic victories over Argentina, into the full version.
