0Canaries let it slip against La Serena
San Luis missed out on the chance to join Unión San Felipe at the top of the Primera B Clausura when they were held to a 3-3 draw by struggling La Serena on Monday night.
Quillota – It looked as though it would be an easy night´s work for the Canaries when they took a two-goal lead in the opening half-hour. Elías Borrego notched the opener with a free-kick and Álvaro Césped struck the second.
However, La Serena gave themselves a glimmer of hope when Gary Tello pulled one back in the 37th minute.
And a shock away win looked on the cards when the Papayeros netted twice in the second half. Pedro Cortés levelled things up four minutes after the break and Tello bagged his second in the 63rd minute.
However, Apertura champions San Luis – managed by ex-La Serena boss Miguel Ponce – responded and drew level just seven minutes later through Matías Campos.
San Felipe lead the way with ten points from four games with Deportes Concepción one point behind. Deportes Temuco and San Luis both have eight points though they have played a game more than the top two.
At the other end of the table, La Serena lie 12th of the 14 teams with three points from four games. They´ve yet to win, but it won´t be long coming if they continue to show the same kind of fighting spirit they showed in Quillota.
Meanwhile, San Felipe will be hoping to convert their league form into the Copa Chile when they visit Iquique in the second leg of their semi-final on Thursday night.
The Primera B outfit have it all to do after they lost the first leg 2-0 at home against Jaime Vera´s men last week.
The other semi-final is an all Primera Division clash. Huachipato defend a 1-0 lead when they travel to Universidad Católica tomorrow night.
