0More Big Wins for Chile at Homeless World Cup
After crushing their Latin American opponents on day one, Chile continued strongly at the Homeless World Cup in Santiago.
With the La Moneda palace looming large in the background, Chilean teams got proceedings underway, with success for both the men and the women. Chile’s men opened up with a 7-1 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina, while the women played straight afterwards. Like their male counterparts the day before, La Roja had all the answers to dominate Argentina, winning 14-1.
Mexico have shown they are a goal scoring powerhouse, adding 15 unanswered goals against a hapless Wales. Chile made it three from three with a big win over Slovenia, keeping them at the top of Group A. Brazil and Mexico are also on top of their groups after three victories, while Hong Kong and Hungary had to go to penalties in a game each, resulting in one less competition point.
Chile’s women open proceedings at midday on Day 3, taking on India on Pitch 1. They take on Norwegian opposition at 2:40 p.m. Chile’s men play Kyrgyzstan at 4:20 p.m. and Canada at 6 p.m.
The annual tournament gathers people who have struggled with homelessness or other issues such as substance abuse from around the world, giving the opportunity to build life skills through sport.
In Chile, the program is run by Acción Total, under the name of Futbol Calle and runs the length of the country, with national tours a part of the program.
