0World champion Miranda fit for South American Games
The South American Games have received a big boost with the news that world water-skiing champion Felipe Miranda is going to be able to compete.
Santiago – The participation of the Chilean had been in doubt because of a knee injury, but he´s confirmed that he will be able to take part – and that´s heartening for Chile´s medal prospects.
Miranda won the overall title at the World Championships in Chile last year and will be a hot favourite to add the South American Games crown.
The water-skiing competition begins on Friday, the opening day of the Games, and runs until Sunday at Los Morros in San Bernardo. And there´s no excuse for Miranda not to know the venue – his family own it.
He said: “I want to win a medal for Chile, hopefully gold. I have a good chance, but I have to do things well.”
Miranda is confident the Chilean water-skiing team will rise to the occasion on home soil.
He said: “We have a team that can win a lot of medals and showcase our sport.”
The 27-year-old is hoping the Chilean public get right behind the event and believes it is a golden chance to show that the sporting landscape is not one-dimensional.
“We want to demonstrate to the country that our sportspeople are successful,” he added. “Sport is not only football, there are a lot more sports that give happiness to Chile.”
