Tough Conditions for Billabong Reñaca Pro

Disappointing conditions were seen for the Billabong Reñaca Pro, but Chile’s surfers made the most of the waves, with Jessica Anderson taking another title.

With US$5,000 on offer, the event attracted a competitive field, who had to put their efforts into working the waves in order to impress the judges. Small swells didn’t help the surfers, but a large crowd still gathered to watch the action.

Hometown hero Maximiliano Cross finished as the winner, beating Pichilemu’s Cristian Merello. Pichilemu fought back in the Women’s event, with Anderson once again being victorious, following victory in the Pura Vida fest the previous week.

There was no luck for Chileans on the other side of the Pacific, with Guillermo Satt and Manuel Salman failing to advance at the Australian Open of Surfing, also held in small conditions at Manly Beach in Sydney.

The next step for many of Chile’s surfers will be the Rip Curl Pro Search event, which will take place in Lebu, south of Concepción.
