Proud Pellegrini engineers Man City title triumph

Manuel Pellegrini reflected on an “unbelievable season” after becoming the first South American manager to win the Premier League.
Manchester City only needed a point to wrap up the title at home against West Ham and goals either side of the break from Samir Nasri and captain Vincent Kompany ensured the crown with something to spare.
Thousands of fans poured onto the pitch at the end to celebrate City´s second title success in three seasons. And the Citizens did it in style as they scored 102 goals in 38 games to hold off the challenge of second-placed Liverpool.
Former Real Madrid and River Plate boss Pellegrini could hardly have asked for a better first season managing in England. As well as the Premier League title, the League Cup is also in the Etihad Stadium trophy cabinet.
Pellegrini, known as ´the engineer´ due to his civil engineering qualifications, said: “The whole season has been unbelievable and I´m very, very happy. We´ve played good football and two titles means it´s been very successful.
“For me, it´s important to win titles, but in style and with attractive football. I think we´ve improved a lot over the course of the season and our success is down to everyone at the club.”
It appeared Liverpool were going to end their 24-year title drought a couple of weeks ago, but a costly 2-0 defeat at home against Chelsea and a 3-3 draw against Crystal Palace, after they led 3-0 late on, allowed City the chance to pip the Reds for the crown.
The 60-year-old added: “Anything can happen in football and I felt sure we could still win the title.”
Afterwards, City players Nasri and goalkeeper Joe Hart spoke glowingly about the job that Pellegrini has done in his debut season at the club. He´s moulded a strong team spirit, kept firm in his beliefs and shown calm leadership.
The challenge next season will be for Pellegrini to put City into the thick of the Champions League battle. But for now he can sit back and enjoy his Premier League and League Cup double – and no one can take that away from him.
