Pellegrini´s City take the derby honours again

Manuel Pellegrini remains on course to guide Manchester City to the Premier League title in his first season at the club after an impressive 3-0 derby win at Manchester United.

Manchester – Edin Dzeko opened the scoring in the first minute at Old Trafford when he tapped home after Samir Nasri´s shot rebounded off the post.

The Bosnian striker added his second in the 56th minute before Yaya Toure put the icing on the cake in the last minute.

The victory lifted City to second in the table and means they are only three points behind leaders Chelsea with two games in hand. It ensures Pellegrini´s troops have their destiny in their own hands with nine games left to play.

The Chilean, who has already put the League Cup in the trophy cabinet, said: “It was an important win against a great team like Manchester United.

“It was very important to keep adding points. You never know how many you’ll need. I am not thinking about the title – we fight with three other teams.”

The Citizens, who had already beaten United 4-1 at home, travel to fourth-placed Arsenal on Saturday and also visit third-placed Liverpool in the run-in.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest defender Gonzalo Jara is waiting to see who his next manager will be.

Forest sacked Billy Davies in the aftermath of their disastrous 5-0 derby defeat against Derby County on Saturday and also lost 1-0 at home to lowly Charlton last night.

Chilean international Jara played both games for the former European champions, who have lost their way in the Championship promotion battle.

The much-travelled Neil Warnock is reported to have turned down the job, while Glenn Hoddle, Zola and Malky Mackay have all been linked with the post.
