0Pellegrini picks up another trophy
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini put the icing on the cake of his successful season by receiving the Premio Sergio Livingstone.
The Chilean guided the Citizens to a Premier League and League Cup double in his first season at the helm and that feat was acknowledged when the Chilean Football Association, the ANFP, and the Players’ Union, SIFUP, held their end of season gala last night.
Pellegrini received the prize which bears the name of the legendary Chilean footballer and broadcaster Sergio Livingstone at an event that counted with the presence of Chilean President Michelle Bachelet.
The former Real Madrid manager said: “When I arrive in Chile, I feel the warmth of the people and I am very excited to receive this distinction. I thank everyone for their words and to have the good fortune to participate in this celebration.”
Aside from Pellegrini, it proved a night to remember for Colo Colo. Centre-back Julio Barroso was named Footballer of the Year after winning back-to- back crowns with O’Higgins (Apertura) and Colo Colo (Clausura).
He was one of seven Colo Colo players chosen in the team of the year. Goalkeeper Justo Villar, right-back Gonzalo Fierro, midfielders Jaime Valdés, Emiliano Vecchio and José Pedro Fuenzalida, and striker Esteban Paredes were also picked.
The other four players to make the team were O’Higgins trio Benjamin Vidal, Yerson Opazo and Luis Pedro Figueroa, and Universidad Católica striker José Luis Muñoz.
Colo Colo boss Héctor Tapia was selected as Manager of the Year.
