Nicole Sáez Named as Chile Sports Subsecretary

While the world of sports administration is generally seen as one run by men, Michelle Bachelet’s appointments have put women in power for Chile’s newest ministry. Another surprise announcement was made when Nicole Sáez was named as subsecretary, following the appointment of Natalia Riffo as Sports Minister.

Like with the ministry, more familiar names, such as Harold Mayne-Nicholls or Jaime Pizarro were overlooked for the position. The soon-to-be subsecretary is currently involved in the organisation of the South American Games, which will take place in March. Today will see the launch of a new marketing campaign, featuring some of Chile’s leading athletes.

Sáez has sports  and physical activity related qualifications from the Universidad de Santiago and is part of the JDC (Young Christian Democrats, in English).

She will take over from Eduardo Valenzuela, who replaced Gabriel Ruiz-Tagle once the former Colo Colo boss was promoted to become Chile’s first Minister of Sport.
