Irish thwart battling Chile´s final dream

Chile´s hopes of reaching the final of the Four Nations women´s hockey tournament in Ireland were dashed when they lost 1-0 to the hosts.
In the winner-takes-all clash, it was the Irish who edged a tight game with a 57th minute goal.
Gillian Pinder produced a great run from midfield before picking out experienced striker Alex Speers, who coolly finished.
Earlier, Chile goalkeeper Claudia Schuler had kept Las Diablas´ chances alive by saving a 24th minute penalty stroke.
Despite a determined effort, Chile couldn´t find a way through the Ireland defence and will have to settle for playing Canada tomorrow in a match for third and fourth place.
Hosts Ireland will take on hot favourites New Zealand in the final in Dublin.
