Everton and Audax still in relegation trouble

It was a game they both desperately needed to win, but Everton and Audax Italiano had to settle for a point apiece in their relegation six-pointer.

Valparaíso – Unión La Calera (1-0 v Universidad de Chile) and Huachipato (4-1 v Antofagasta) had picked up vital points at the bottom of the table and it added to the pressure on Everton and Audax to win at the Estadio Elías Figueroa.

At the finish, it was Audax who felt more aggrieved at not picking up maximum points. The visitors opened the scoring through Bryan Carrasco in the 33rd minute and looked as though they would hold on to that lead for long periods.

However, experienced defender Rafael Olarra was penalised for a handball in the box by referee Patricio Polic in the 83rd minute.

Olarra was sent off and Emiliano Romero kept his nerve to score from the spot and level things up.

Even then, the ten men of Audax could have won it. In the 87th minute, Felipe Mora headed the ball into the net, but the goal was controversially ruled out for a foul.

Rock-bottom Rangers (24 points) look in need of a miracle if they´re going to avoid relegation to the Primera B. However, the fight to escape the other automatic relegation spot looks as though it´s going to go right down to the wire.

Audax (29) are currently the team that would go down, but Unión La Calera, Huachipato and Everton have only one more point.
