0Chile star Morrison gets fresh shot at the WNBA
Chilean women´s basketball star Ziomara Morrison is heading back into the big time with the Indiana Fever.
Indianapolis – The 25-year-old previously played in the Women´s National Basketball Association (WNBA) for the San Antonio Silver Stars in 2012.
With more experience under her belt, the Chilean international will be determined to make a bigger impact this time around in the best league in the world.
Morrison played a massive role for her country in last month´s South American Games. With her point-scoring and rebounding skills, the 6ft 4ins centre was pivotal in Chile´s silver medal.
She had a storming match against Argentina in the final and showed she could keep her cool under extreme pressure by scoring two free throws with three seconds left that took the game to overtime.
In their official statement about the signing, the Fever said: “Morrison is a 6-4 center from Chile who signed a free agent contract after previously playing in the WNBA with the San Antonio Stars.
“She played 30 games as a WNBA rookie in 2012, but was waived by the club during training camp last season.
“Morrison is a member of the Chilean national team and has played professionally in Europe since 2005. Currently, she is averaging 16.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per game for Ceyhan Belediyespor in Turkey.
“Morrison, 25, finished her winter season ranked seventh in the league in scoring and sixth in rebounds. She also averaged one block per game in what is often regarded as the most competitive league in Europe.”
The Fever begin their pre-season training camp on April 27 and have a friendly against the Washington Mystics on Monday, May 5.
They being the regular season at Chicago on May 16 before hosting their opening home game against the Atlanta Dream on Saturday, May 17.
