0Basay is the new boss at Ñublense
Former Colo Colo and Santiago Wanderers boss Ivo Basay has taken over as manager of Ñublense.
Chillán – Basay only parted company with Wanderers in March, so he hasn´t had to wait long to make a return to the Primera División managerial ranks.
Ñublense finished seventh in the Apertura, but their results fell away alarmingly in the Clausura. Indeed, they finished second bottom after a miserable campaign.
That proved the death knell for manager Pablo Abraham, who has been replaced by the experienced Basay.
The 48-year-old ex-O´Higgins boss said: “This is a very serious institution and I haven´t made a mistake in coming to Ñublense. I hope to put the club where it deserves to be, fighting at the top. I promise hard work.”
Basay has signed a one-year contract and plans to make a host of signings to strengthen the squad. His first challenge will be to prepare a team for the Copa Chile.
Ñublense are due to open up with a home match against Naval in Group 8 on Sunday, May 18. Universidad Católica and Curicó Unido make up the group.
