Super Seguel makes Grand Slam breakthrough

Chile’s emerging tennis player Daniela Seguel is through to the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career.

The breakthrough came when Seguel and doubles partner Vesna Dolonc won a tight second qualifying round match at Roehampton.

The Chilean-Serbian combination edged the first set 6-4 against Switzerland´s Timea Bacsinszky and Sweden´s Johanna Larsson. The second set was even tighter and went to a tie-break.

Eventually, Seguel and Dolonc won a nail-biter 9-7 to clinch the match and a coveted place in the Wimbledon main draw.
Seguel, ranked 112 in doubles, is the first Chilean woman in Grand Slam action for 31 years.

The Panther will find out who her opponents will be in the first round when the draw takes place tomorrow morning.
Reaching a Grand Slam main draw is another sign that Seguel is heading in the right direction. The 21-year-old appears to have a bright future in singles and doubles.

Meanwhile, Chile’s Nicolás Jarry (480) continued the success story by reaching the semi-finals of a Challenger for the first time in his fledgling career.

The 18-year-old defeated Egypt´s Sherif Sabry (390) in the quarter-finals of the Mohammedia Challenger in Morocco.
Jarry will now face Spain´s Daniel Muñoz de la Nava (383) in the semi-finals. The teenager has been making big strides forwards in the world rankings and has already guaranteed himself 29 ranking points by reaching the semis.
