0Rain Interrupts Garín Fightback
Christian Garín continued his impressive form in the qualifiers for the main draw of the Copa Claro ATP event in Argentina, but rain caused delay to the match in the final moments.
After bowing out in the opening round of the Royal Guard Open in Viña del Mar, Garín’s ranking plummeted 60 places to number 439. Having opted out of the South American Games to look to boost his ranking, strong performances in Argentina should help the teen sensation rise up the ranks.
After going down in the first set to Austrian Gerald Melzer 6-3, the Chilean regained control with a 6-4 victory in the second set. Serving at 4-4, the Austrian looked to have the advantage, but Garín broke serve and began serving for the match, taking a 30-0 lead before rain stopped play.
Once the rain clears, Garín will need to serve out the remaining two points to ensure a victory, but Melzer, ranked 196, could still stage a fightback.
Garín beat Juan Ignacio Londero and Diego Schwartzman in the earlier rounds of the qualifiers.
