1Podlipnik takes the prize
Hans Podlipnik won his first tournament of the season with a hard-fought victory against Gernany´s Steven Moneke (414) in Sharm El Sheikh.
Egypt – The 26-year-old was the top seed for the Future 7 tournament and showed why as he took the title with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 success. The tournament was played on clay and had a prize fund of US $10,000.
It was his 14th career title and provides a timely boost after injury ruled him out of Chile´s Davis Cup tie against Barbados at the last minute.
Podlipnik is ranked 331 in the world and that makes him the Chilean number three behind Paul Capdeville (189) and Gonzalo Lama (307).
However, when the points from the Egypt tournament are added in a week´s time, Podlipnik should leapfrog Lama in the rankings to become the Chilean number two.
