0Inspired Jarry makes it seven in Germany
Red-hot Chilean tennis player Nicolás Jarry made it seven wins on the spin with a straight sets victory in Germany.
After winning the Germany Futures 6 last week, Jarry (372) has continued where he left off and is already through to another quarter-final.
The 18-year-old rising star beat the seventh seed Maximilian Neuchrist (349), of Austria, in three sets in the first round, but found it more straightforward against Russian qualifier Yan Sabanin in round two. Jarry won 6-3, 6-4 to ease through to the last eight of the Germany Futures 7.
The in-form teenager will now face the Czech Republic´s Dusan Lojda in the quarter-finals.
While Jarry’s performances on the court continue to bode well for the future of Chilean tennis, some bad news looks set to be confirmed off it.
After 21 years, the ATP of Viña del Mar is about to be dropped from the tennis schedule. Due to a lack of support, the Fillol Group have decided not to invest more money in the tournament and it seems set to move to another country, probably Ecuador.
Tournament director Álvaro Fillol said: “Nobody has lent us a hand and it´s already too late. The country stayed sleeping and the tournament beat us.”
