Gymnasts sparkle in World Challenge Cup

Chile´s gymnasts produced some excellent performances on the first day of competition at the World Challenge Cup in Anadia, Portugal.
Martina Castro came top of the qualifying competition in the women´s vault with a score of 13.725, while compatriot Franchesca Santi came fourth with 13.375. It means Chile will have high hopes of medals in tomorrow´s final.
Simona Castro is through to the final of the uneven bars after qualifying fifth with 12.200.
On the men´s side, Tomás González is sure to be a strong medal contender in the floor final tomorrow. He qualified in second place with a score of 15.050. Eddie Penev, of the United States, came top with 15.300.
Fellow Chilean Juan Pablo González came 24th in the floor with 12.900.
On the rings, Juan Raffo produced an excellent display to make sure of his place in tomorrow´s eight-man final. He took fifth place with 14.650. Brazil´s Arthur Zanetti gave another master-class to top the qualifying round with 15.800.
On the pommel horse, Raffo found things tougher and finished 28th with 11.450.
Qualifying continues on Friday and the finals take place tomorrow and on Sunday.
