0Double disappointment for Seguel
Chilean number one Daniela Seguel was on the wrong end of two identical scorelines in the ITF Campinas tournament.
Brazil – The Panther had been trailing 6-3, 2-1 to fifth seed Kristina Kucova overnight and was powerless to prevent the Slovakian going on to take victory when play resumed on Thursday morning.
Kucova (151) clinched the second second set 6-4 to earn her quarter-final berth and knock out Seguel (268).
Seguel also suffered a 6-3, 6-4 defeat in the women´s doubles, alongside compatriot Cecilia Costa. There was no disgrace as the Chilean duo lost to the top seeds Lyudmyla Kichenok (Ukraine) and Alexandra Panova (Russia).
On the men´s side, Hans Podlipnik continues to notch up victories in Egypt. The Chilean number three, who is set to overtake compatriot Gonzalo Lama (307) in the rankings, won the Future 7 in Sharm El Sheikh last week.
Now he´s through to the quarter-finals of the Future 8 at the same venue after two comfortable victories.
Podlipnik saw off fellow Chilean David Fleming 6-0, 6-3 in the first round and then sent Russia´s Nikolai Soloviev packing with a 6-3, 6-3 success.
The 26-year-old will now take on Egypt´s Mazen Osama, the seventh seed, in the quarter-finals. On paper, Podlipnik would be expected to win as his ranking, 331, is much higher than his opponent, 513.
