Swimmer Macarena notches Chile´s second gold

Swimmer Macarena Quero scooped Chile’s second gold medal in the Juegos Parasuramericanos with a superb display in the 100 metres freestyle S10 category.

Santiago – A day after team captain Juan Carlos Garrido won gold in the weightlifting, it was the turn of Quero to take centre stage.

In the impressive Centro Acuático at the Estadio Nacional complex, Quero triumphed with a time of 1min 11.05secs.

Meanwhile, Chile are celebrating another medal in the weightlifting. Cristian Aguirre claimed bronze in the -88kgs section with a lift of 160 kilos.

Ecuador´s José Marino won gold with 180 kilos, while Colombia´s Iván Palacios took silver with 162 kilos.

A delighted Aguirre said: “I´m very happy with this medal. Now I need to improve my technique and strength.”
