Lama, Garín and Sborowitz through to last eight

Chilean tennis players Gonzalo Lama, Christian Garín and Matias Sborowitz are all through to the quarter-finals of their respective events.

Colombia – Chilean number two Lama produced one of his best-ever results to beat second seed Victor Estrella Burgos, ranked 100 in the world, in the Cali Challenger.

Lama (315) triumphed convincingly 6-4, 6-1 against the Dominican Republic player and now has a great chance to reach the semi-finals. He faces Egypt´s Sherif Sabry (431) in the last eight.

The 21-year-old has already pocketed $1,170 in prize money and, more importantly, 15 ranking points.

Meanwhile, Garín (410) won an all-Chilean clash to reach the quarter-finals of the Brazil Futures 4 in Natal. The 17-year-old second seed came through a tough match against Benjamin Ugarte (806) by winning two tie-breaks. He won the first 7-2 and the second 8-6.
Garín faces Argentina’s Tomas Iriarte (1,487) this afternoon for a place in the last four.
Sborowitz (795) reached the semi-finals of the Iran Futures 6 last week and is already through to the quarter-finals of the Iran Futures 7 this week.

The 20-year-old fourth seed eased into the last eight with a comfortable 6-0, 7-6 (3) victory against France’s Jerome Inzerillo (1,041). He now meets Austria’s Maxi Pongratz, ranked 1,162.
