Chilean number one Daniela Seguel was unable to build on her strong qualifying performance in the US $100,000 ITF Cagnes-Sur-Mer tournament.
France – The 21-year-old, at a career-high 257 in the world rankings, came through three rounds of qualifying in straight sets to make the main draw in style.
However, the host country´s Claire Feuerstein (124) had the upper hand in their first round match. The 28-year-old used all her experience to triumph 6-4, 6-2.
Now ´the Panther´ must focus all her attentions on the doubles, alongside Argentina´s Tatiana Bua. The duo caused an upset in the first round when they knocked out the top seeds, Sandra Klemenschits (Austria) and Andreja Klepac (Slovenia).
The Chilean-Argentinian combination ran out 6-3, 7-5 victors to move through to the quarter-finals.
