0Chileans Move Forward in Providencia Futures Tournament
The first futuro tournament of the year, held at Club Providencia, is guaranteed to have at least one Chilean in the men’s final.
Top seed Gonzalo Lama advance to the semi final and will face Brazil’s Thiago Lopes. Lama is ranked 200 places above Lopes, so will hope to put the pressure on. If he advances, he will play the winner between Nicolás Jarry (717) and Ricardo Urzúa (420). Despite the great ranking difference, Jarry is one of Chile’s hopes of the future, having reached a top 10 ranking in the ITF juniors.
Action starts at 10am with free entry. In the women’s event, play will open with Victoria Bosio (Argentina) against Chile’s Fernanda Brito. Top seed Gabriela Ce (Brazil) will face Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska. Brito will later pair with Camila Silva in the double’s final. The top seeds will face Podoroska and her compatriot Sofia Blanco.
It’s an all Chilean affair in the doubles final, with third seeds Urzúa and Victor Núñez facing Jorge Aguilar and Guillermo Núñez. There are US$10,000 up for grabs in both the men’s and women’s tournaments.
