0Battling Garín and Jarry defeated in doubles
Chilean interest in the Royal Guard Open came to a premature end when Christian Garín and Nicolás Jarry were knocked out of the doubles.
Viña del Mar – The Chilean duo had a tough mission against Colombian second seeds Juan Sebastián Cabal and Robert Farah, but they gave a good account of themselves.
In fact, the teenagers took the first set 6-4 to suggest a shock could be on the cards. Even after the Colombians hit back to win the second set 6-3, Garin and Jarry fought all the way in the deciding tie-break before going down 10-8.
Meanwhile, Japanese qualifier Taro Daniel (226) seeks a place in the semi-finals today when he takes on third seed Nicolás Almagro.
Daniel beat Argentinian Federico Delbonis (61) 1-6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (7) in the last sixteen, while Spaniard Almagro saw off Argentinian qualifier Martín Alund (133) 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in his opening match in the ATP tournament.
The other quarter-finals are top seed Fabio Fognini v Jeremy Chardy, Guillermo García-Lopez v Sebastian Giraldo, and Daniel Gimeno v Leonardo Mayer.
Spaniard Gimeno (85) knocked out holder Horacio Zeballos (67), of Argentina, 6-2, 6-4.
