0Basketball team learn lessons from world powers
Chile’s men’s wheelchair basketball team couldn’t sign off from the Juegos Parasuramericanos with a win, but believe they’ve learned a lot from the experience.
Santiago – After four straight defeats, Chile wanted to bow out with a victory, but found the might of opponents Venezuela too much.
The visitors were more accurate with their shooting and eventually eased to a 74-41 success at the Gimnasio Polideportivo at the Estadio Nacional.
Chile had earlier lost to Uruguay (56-60), Argentina (19-82), Brazil (20-86) and Colombia (27-75).
Despite the defeats, the Chilean team believe that taking part in the tournament on home soil will stand them in good stead for the future.
Chile’s Cristián Maldonado said: “It´s the first time that these Games have taken place and we´ve taken advantage of them well.
“We´ve played against world powers and now we need to work a lot more to take the fight to these teams.”
