Stade Francais flair too much for Católica

Stade Francais moved into contention in rugby’s Torneo de Apertura with a convincing 34-13 home win against Universidad Católica.

The visitors notched the opening try, but it proved to be a false dawn as Stade took control of the game.

The hosts fluffed a couple of great chances, but finally found their scoring touch. Indeed, Stade scored four tries in the opening half as they built a 22-8 advantage.

Católica tried to get back into the match in the second half, but lacked the cutting edge to carve open the strong Stade defence.

The half remained a scrappy affair with a glut of penalties disrupting the flow until Stade scored a couple of tries to kill the game off.

Católica finished the match as they started with a try, but it was little consolation as they were well beaten by an impressive Stade Francais performance.

The victory lifted Stade to second in the table with ten points from three matches, the same tally as leaders COBS, who have a better points difference.

COBS saw their 100 per cent start come to an end when they lost 26-25 at Old Reds in a thriller.

Alumni beat Old Georgians 18-6 at home and lie third, also on ten points.

Meanwhile, Country Club remain the only team yet to record a victory. They lost 29-24 at home against Old Boys and have suffered three straight defeats.

Rodrigo Herrera, Diego de Camino, Julio Blanco and Bernardo Echavarri scored tries for Old Boys.

In next Saturday´s matches, Old Georgians host COBS, Country Club entertain Stade Francais, Old Boys take on Alumni and Old Reds face Universidad Católica.
