Brazil Too Strong in Beach Volleyball

The luck of the draw means that Brazil’s two teams will face each other in the semi finals of both the men’s and women’s beach volleyball events.

For Chile, the Grimalt cousins will look to build on their strong form on the South American beach volleyball circuit, having beaten their Venezuelan opposition in Peru before the Games. No matter what, there will be Brazilian opposition to follow in Parque Peñalolen, the only question will be whether they fight for gold or bronze.

In the women’s event, Chile’s pairing of Francisca Rivas and Camila Pazdirek were no match for the Brazil’s combination of “Duda” and “Lili”. They went down in the quarter final, losing both sets 21-8. The Chileans fought hard in the early stages and caused some complications for the Brazilian stars, but were eventually overwhelmed.

The all Brazil semi final sees a tough ask for Liliane Maestrini and Eduarda Lisboa Santos, facing World Champions Talita Antunes and Taiana Lima. The other semi final will be played between Argentina and Colombia.
